Fretbuzz problem!

Sign in to disble this ad
Does anyone know what might be causing the following problem?
I play a lot of music, particularly worship music, which requires me to use the lower frets on my bass. But everytime I fret the 16th fret on the G-string it makes a horrible buzzing sound. This is the only fret and string I have problems with.
Does anyone have any idea as to what might be the cause if the problem and what I could do to rectify it?

A high 17th fret on the G string. You could try getting some 400 or 600 wet or dry sandpaper (the black stuff) and gently rub the high part a bit and then check.

It would be a good idea to verify the high spot before starting - put the edge of a credit card in the area and see if it rocks on the 17th fret. If it doesn't, you might have a low spot on the 16th fret instead.
