Fretless to Fretted

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi, new member here.

Ive joined because I'm seeking some advice on a problem I have.

I currently play a fretless Warwick Corvette and I am very happy with it.
However I don't own a good standard fretted and I find myself needing a fretted bass 4 or 5 times more than a fretless bass.
I am going to Uni next year to study music with bass as my primary instrument and I think that I will miss out on many opportunities without a fretless. I enjoy playing teh fretless but I rarely play it live as I prefer having the 'twang' of a fretted in the music I play.
The other part of the problem is that being a penny strapped 18 year old I cannot afford to buy a new bass at the level of quality that the Warwick gives me.

So basically I want to change my frettless to a fretted. What would be the best way of doing this, new neck? or frets being put in. I have heard that putting frets in can warp the neck although I don't plan on doing it myself.
Any opinions would be very welcome..

Help Please.

Get a neck neck, but you might want to try this in the Luthier Forum

If its a bolt on, get a new neck, keep the old one too, you can swap as wanted then.
