Fretless Maple Board

Should an unlined fretless maple board be "finished" ?
If so, what's the best finish to use?
I was thinking of using a coat or 2 of Tru-Oil.

yes.
something hard and sealing.
something harder and more sealing than that.

If you just use an oil finish, it will turn grey and nasty in no time at all. Since this is a fretless with a (relatively) soft fingerboard, I'd look into some epoxy to finish it. Nice and hard, stays pretty, lasts forever.

Yup. All maple finger/fret boards should be finished. They're fairly soft and soak up grime, so you'll end up with a really icky grey stained board.

OR *hint* talk to Larry Davis in the Gallery Hardwood forum about getting a acryllic impregnated board...No finish needed and it won't wear very quickly.

Thanks guys, I will be looking inot that. I just hope the price is not too high.
Otherwise, I'll try the epoxy route.
