Fretless set-up

Before lowering the action and adjusting the truss rod on my defrretted OLP, the intonation on my A string is flat. It's tuned correctly, but in order to get a D on the 5th fret, I'm 3/4 of the way to the 4th fret.

The height looks correct. What's my problem? (I know I'm opening myself up there)

--[edit] It's better on father down the neck, but worse closer to the nut

If you removed the frets, you need to lower the nut by the height of the missing frets. If you haven't done that, it will improve the intonation over the entire scale.

And the obvious question is--how old are the strings? Old strings make intonation more difficult.

You know, I hadn't though about the strings. I think they're the originals, but I don't know as I bought it from a pawn shop.

HA-ha. I fail.

Payday will = new strings.

I defretted my OLP. New strings help, but shimming the neck slightly gave me better action/response on the G string, and I popped the nut out and sanded it down to compensate for the missing fret height, as stated below.

It sounds to me more like an overly high nut than anything else.
