Fretless Setup "clicking"

Sign in to disble this ad
Im having a problem with my fretless bass. I get a "clicking" sound when I play. I have adjust my technique to reduce it but I am wondering if there is anything else I can do.

The bass is one that I made myself. It is a four string NT with a Jatoba board. Ill try to attach some picture.

The clicking is from the strings hitting the end of the fingerboard. The neck is very nearly straight. What I notice is that if I "fret" a string around say the second fret there is more distance between the string and board around the 15 fret than there is at the 24th. I am thinking if I sand down the last few inches of the FB it would help.

Does this make sense?

Nice looking bass! Love the "Skunk-Stripe"!

Makes sense... I had a search for "falloff" around here & came up with these two threads:

http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showth...ff#post3565630

basses for newbies (SX batch build thread)

They're both about fretted basses, but the principle is the same.

Sounds like you've already identified the solution as well.

Happy mwaaah-ing.

Nice bass there. Looks like the lovechild of a Carvin and a Wal.
