frets

Hey guys
Does anybody know what difference does it make to have jumbo frets or small ones like a mandolin?

A friend of mine has a bass that plays like butter and he said that it wasn’t like that before, and he took it to the luthier and he shaved the frets so the action was lower.

So it makes me wonder if smaller frets = lower action = better playability.

Does anyone know?

A fret job where the frets are leveled and crowned will allow you to get lower action on your bass without buzz, because it evens out all of the frets.

And this is in the wrong forum.

Smaller frets will allow you to have the strings closer to the fretboard, but if your instrument is set up correctly the distance between the underside of the strings and the top of the frets should be the same.

Yes, this is in the wrong forum.

Setup & Repair would be the best. You might want to take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with the TB forums. Off-Topic basically means anything not specifically music-related - it's where the freaks and low-lifes hang out.

I spend a lot of time in OT. I wasn't excluding myself in that description.

See what I did there? Now it's a proper OT thread.

Ooooh... I like it, good work Eric. Add a little pork n' beans in kiddie pools (and the subsequent sound of maki divebombing in our direction) and it'll be right at home.
