Angry Friggin' GC....(pickguard problem)

Sign in to disble this ad
I ordered a black, Fender, 10 hole, 3 ply pickgaurd for my MIM standard Jazz from GC on 3 day service. 2 weeks later...I recieved the pickguard and it doesn't fit! For some backasswards reason, the pickup hole is about 15% smaller than it should be.

The question is...Are pickguards different between MIM and MIA or is this just a simple manufacturer's defect?

(either way...I have to send it back for an exchange...)

Older MIM Jazz basses had pickups that are the same size (bridge size based on your comment). American, MIJ and newer MIM have wider pickups at the bridge than in the middle.

In this instance it's probably more friggin' Fender's fault than GCs... They probably don't even communicate this info to GC.

Well...I've been shopping, and it seems my only option is to send a tracing to WDMusic, and have it custom made. So anyone that has a 2000 Mexican Jazz, and wants a pickguard...use Pickguard.com

I have a 2000, I bought a pickguard and just used a dremel/file to make it fit. It's less than 1/8 inch on mine.

that's the advice i would've given as well. we can only go by what fender tells us is the right thing... but pickguards and other like parts are funny animals, and they don't always fit right.

sorry you had trouble.

The answer is yes, MIM, MIA, MIJ all have different pickguard sizes and hole patterns. Doesn't surprise me that even though the years its changed.
