Sign in to disble this ad
my geddy is the best, but i have some issue with the a string on it. the e thumps, the d and g are so nice and they sting. the a just seems kinda flat and dead. i have new strings on it and i just got a set-up a month ago also. wondering if there is anything else i could look at? any suggestions or ideas?

Try more turns of the A-string round the tuning peg to get a sharper angle over the nut. And/or try screwing the E-side of the pickups down into the body and loosening the G-side so it can come up to full height. You'll lose some E-string volume but I found it evened up the volume from string to string. If you have a VU meter or input gain lights, you can use them to adjust 'till you get a similar volume from each string. Don't forget to do each pickup seperately! And buy one of these http://www.guitar-mod.com/rg_prewired.html (the JSP), they make my Geddy Lee rock even harder! Good luck.

A meter or lights on your amp to monitor input gain, some amps have 'em, some don't, maybe just a peak input gain LED. My E was way loud 'fore I screwed the E-side pickup down. The guitar mod assembly I got was a series/parallel switch, for some extra bottom end & a bit more output. Me mate's got some Villex pickups and they're quite tasty but passive.
