Geddy Lee Neck - Warranty?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi guys,
I knew going in to the purchase that these guys have neck problems. I bought it new, and after getting it set up, learned that the entire neck slopes to the bass side (instead of being shaped like a "c", the neck looks more like an "r". There's also a dip in the neck at around the 9-12 frets. The action is semi low, and buzzes from the 9th fret up. This is AFTER a setup!

I bought this bass one month ago. It comes with a one year Fender warranty - is Fender usually good with things like this? The neck is doesn't buzz, but needs to have unreasonable action - at low action, it's buzz city. There's basically no usable in-between. Do I bring this up with Fender, or do I bring this up with the shop? Are new necks something that Fender's warranty usually covers?

Practice your patient Zen meditation. Fender will honor this kind of warranty issue but it takes some time. It starts with going to the store where you bought it (hopefully an authorized Fender dealer) and showing them the twisted neck. They will issue a warranty claim with Fender who will want the bass shipped back to them (or the nearest authorized Fender repair facility) at which point they decide whether or not to replace the neck or exchange the bass entirely.

You know what, that's perfect. Thank you very much! I can't go in until next week, so I was wondering if I should just start my search for a new neck. I'm patient, so I can wait - although it's hard to not play my new bass!

first i've heard of that! geddys usually kick ass.

assuming there is indeed a problem that a proper set-up won't fix, take it to where you got it, they are the ones who deal with getting warranty repairs (likely a replacement neck in this case).

this sort of thing is indeed exactly what the warranty covers.

they might run into the problem of fender not having any replacement necks in stock, meaning it could be months before you get one. at that point, it would be worth talking to the store about maybe exchanging it for something else.
