Geddy Truss Rod maxed out? Too tight? I just bought a Geddy Jazz bass here on TB to use the neck on a P bass and I think the truss is turned all the way tight. I do simple set ups and have never had this problem. The truss is at the neck heel and it the old style phillips head looking truss, not a hex, is there anything I can do or should I send it back? If I take it to a shop, what am I looking at as far as cost? |
First loosen it a quarter and re-tighten it the same to see the pressure needed to turn it. This is safe way to figure out if it is maxed. If its maxed, take the nut all the way off and insert a washer or two. That spaces the nut out gaining you more threads.: No more maxed! Fender even sells the washers for about 7 bucks but you can get some at a hardware store for fitty cent. |
Watch this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=jfAp6EYu9ow Theres some very useful tips regarding truss rod repairs. Especially the "back-clamping" trick at the end of the video. |
I HAD THE SAME EXACT ISSUE WITH MY GEDDY!~~Maxed out and still action was too high..and 96tbird is right-Loosen the nut till it comes right off add washers-put the nut back on and tighten till neck is nice and straight. I bought 2 little washers from my local music store for a dollar that fit on the truss rod perfectly and it totally fixed the problem!! |
Washers did the trick! Thanks! |
Man good to hear. |
