| How much $ do you want to spend? If YOU take the body off and strip the hardware and the paint, MANY auto-body shops will paint the body for beer money. I know two people who have gone that route and the paint came out fantastic. Sometimes they have a bit still in the spray gun and need to clean it and if you like the color, one place did it for free just to have fun. Clear coat in generally in another gun (that's very common to KEEP clear CLEAR).
Otherwise if you go to a music repair shop, they need to be set up for painting. many simply don't have the room. Others, who are set up for it want anywhere from $129-$400 depending.
Frankly, I painted a few myself as I got a lot of equipment and it takes very little paint. MANY electrical musical instruments used automotive paint, back in the day. The amount (selection) of colors are astounding. That is one of the reasons why "unique" colors such as off-whites, metal flake, etc were sold. Back in the 60's they often simply painted (no clear coats over the paint) especially solid color fenders. Gibson may have used a clear over a sunburst or metal flake: I'm not sure.
In a city like Albany, check the phone book for Musical Instrument Repair - I'm fairly sure that NYC have several. Depends on how much you want to spend. |
