Getting marker off of finish?

Sign in to disble this ad
Okay, I'm not the brightest in this regard but I was wondering if anyone had a simple solution. I have a right angle cable with a 'sleeve'. The sleeve was blue and I didn't think it matched, so I wrote on it with black permanent marker. Well... the marker isn't so permanent in that it rubbed off onto my cream colored bass and won't come off with licking and rubbing So, since my bass stays at the practice site, is there anything I can bring with me next time to get it off the finish? It isn't too dark but I hate seeing it there cause it looks like scratches etc. The bass is a Fender Standard Jazz MIM. Thanks.

Try rubber cement thinner. It's available at art supply stores. It will probably also take the marker ink off your cable sleeve. Then try wrapping the sleeve with black vinyl tape.

Denatured alcohol.

Denatured alcohol will make any "Sharpie" run for the hills. NOT rubbing alcohol...denatured, sold in the paint department of your local hardware store. Takes that marker RIGHT off!

I like, I know of this. I also hear this is good for soaking strings and cleaning them right? Is it harmful to any part of the bass (minus electronics of course.)?

It's harmful to nitro finishes (your bass doesn't have one) and nitro pickguards (your bass didn't come standard with one of those). Don't drink it or let your pets drink it. It's deadly to pets. It's a good cleaner though and exaporates very quickly leaving no residue. It also removes wax and grease.

I have used this to get marker off of a mixer scribble strip.
