Gibson Grabber Bass Neck

Sign in to disble this ad
I recently bought a Gibson Grabber which has been converted to a fretless somewhere in its life.

I got it for a really, really great price, £180!

I invested in it as I like them and wanted to eventually buy a new neck for it.

Any one have any recommendations on replacement necks?

I originally wanted to put a Fender Jazz neck on it, but have since learned that it won't work as the Fender necks are slimmer at the joint that Gibson necks.

Scale length is 34.5".

Thanks guys, any help is useful.

Talk with a luthier about replacing the fretboard.

Yeah. Finding a replacement neck to fit might be tough. I don't know of any companies that make one. You could have one custom built but it would cost a fortune. Get it re-fretted. Even that's not cheap for a good job, but not as bad as a custom neck.

It's a shame how so many guys ruin a perfectly good instrument by de-fretting it.

I should talk. I de-fretted my 62 P bass in 1963. The guy I traded it to in the late 70s had it re-fretted. He still plays it on gigs.

The fretboard can definitely be removed and replaced. This is the best route, if the original fretboard is beyond repair. None of your options are inexpensive.
