Have you considered a professional Double Bass shop?

They are used to very large handmade acoustic bass instruments that
vary immensely from one to the next, have knowledge of classic repair
techniques, parts suppliers, strings, finishes, etc., and will usually
fabricate what cannot be replaced from existing parts.

Start your search with Volkwein's, either the Beaver Run Store or in Latrobe. Wallace Bass Shop may be able to give you some direction, too. Mannella Guitars in Verona may are also reliable.

not a very good shot, but behind me is a black gibson mandobass owned by a friend of mine. it is a bear to play, but it has the most unique tone. it sounds like.... well, like a really big-bodied acoustic bass guitar. projects lows like a "regular" ABG never can, but still has the "sting" on top from being fretted.

somewhere i have a better shot of it--- i will try and find it.

About a 2 hour drive from the Pittsburg area, and I'm sure Dan charges big $$$.

But that piece is worth the trip (and cash), IMHO!

Good luck - and yeah, PICS PLEASE!!!
