Gibson Rd Artist Truss rod adjustment

So i just recently got my hands on a gibson rd artist and it seems like the truss rod adjustment hole where the allen wrench goes is sealed off or something. I was wondering what this was or how i can remove it because the action on the bass is wayyyyy to high for my taste. and the standard bridge that comes on it doesn't help at all either.

That's because there is no recess for an allen wrench. It is a traditional 5/16" nut.

Here is a good wrench.

if you can't tell the difference between needing an allen wrench and a socket wrench, best to put the cover back on and take it to somebody.

(no shame in that, some folks are just not mechanically inclined.)

ha!

did it work?

if it feels stiff to turn (especially if you feel the rod sort of twist and spring back), you'll want to spin that brass nut all the way off and put a little oil and/or wax in the threads and on the flat part, so it doesn't bind up while tightening.
