GK neck on SX body?

Sign in to disble this ad
anyone firmiliar with these necks?

http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...:X:RTQ:CA:1123

I emailed the seller and he infomred me the headstock says GK, and it is a Fender copy made in China. I want to swap out the neck from my SX Fretless P with a low end fretted neck. Rondo's out of stock and their new headstocks are ugly. Any ideas? Ive never seen these before. I imagine at the worst Id have to shim the neck/body?

could be good, ask for more picks, long shot of neck for straightness front of headstock.
return policy?
other than that could be good

Hi.

Excuse my ignorance, but 2 things come to mind:

#1 Why replace the neck with a same or lesser quality one? More accurate headstock?
#2 Ain't that neck a bit pricey, basses like the one that neck came from are around 80€ over here AFAIK.

Its not so much an upgrade but a replacement. My main bass is a Fender J, and another modded fretless that I use.

My fretless SX P with quarter pounders in it is not being used. Being on a limited budjet I just want to turn it into a regular P so I can get more milage out of it. And the new headstocks on the SX basses...have been discussed here to no end.

So I dont think I'd buy one when they come back in stock. I'd be open to any suggestions. I really wanted a rosewood neck but....Are the Fender necks I see on ebay that go for around $110 worth while?

Mighty Mite necks have been used on many an SX.

I see what you want to do, and if it were me, I'd get a Mighty Mite.

The first thing that strikes me as odd about the neck you are looking at is that they don't show the front of the headstock.

The next thing to take into account is that it has the over hang on the end of the fretboard.

Hi.

Ok, that makes much more sense.

As I haven't bought any necks of e-bay, I can't really comment on them.

My limited experience with lower quality necks/fretwork, has been that You have to do at least some fret leveling in order to get the most of the instrument.
It really doesn't matter whether the neck is bare or comes with the rest of the instrument .

Sam
