I've made a few. Labour-intensive, low demand so I stopped making them. A shame though - I always thought that putting plastic on a nice wooden instrument was a bit cheap.

Too bad, I feel the same way. I had Mike Dolan de-fret my Amer. J5 deluxe and gloss the original rosewood board. It's the trans red finish on the body, so I really don't want to go solid color or tort. They would be too distracting from all the tasty wood, IMO.

I'm thinking about going leather, we have a couple of local guys that do nice tool work, or just doing my own veneer on the original guard.

None of the sites that still offer a custom wood guard have anything whatsoever posted regarding price-range. I still can't believe Jeanie's stays open with that 6th grade disaster of a web page. For a biz with their years/rep it's surprising to say the least. I'd be kinda embarrassed.
