Going between tunings

What kind of setup, if any, is conducive to going between tunings a good deal?

A second bass is my favorite way to combat this. If there are more than 2 tunings, I'll use as many as needed at a show. If I go from E to drop D I'll use the same bass, otherwise tuning takes too much valuable time on stage!

Also keep in mind that if your "alternate" tuning is lower than your most common, you might want to keep your settings a little higher to accomodate...
+1 to this. My younger brother has only one four string, and just has his action a little higher, as he needs it for standard for odd jobs and such, and a step down (sometimes drop C) for his metal band.

Thank you! That's my exact situation. I play in drop C for my metal band, but I practice a lot of classical stuff and scale exericises for my own interests; much easier in standard, all on a single four string. Higher action. Thanks again!
