Going crazy

I have a Schecter Diamond series stileto studio 6 string bass with EMG-HZ pick ups. I bought it last august. it was working perfectly, however, about a month and a half ago a friend of mine let me borrow his amp, its an ampeq BA-115. after a few days of playing,,, i started hearing a weird tone, like a mushy tone, not buzz.. just a weird tone.. long story short now when i play and i first hook it up it works, and a little later i get that tone and soon enough it just goes MUTE.

weird thing is that when i pull the cable out, and put it back in, again it sounds good, and goes back down. i have no idea what to do. has anyone had this problem or care to shine some light on it?

thanks

Is the bass active? sounds like the 9v battery inside it is dead, you just need to change it.

+1, as when the cable is plugged in, it powers up the EQ, etc. When the battery runs low, it will fade off the power, and you'll get the fuzzy, weird sounds. When not in use, unplug the cable to save battery power, and always carry a spare with you when you are playing/gigging.

Have you tried the same bass into a different amp, or direct into a computer, Pod, or something like that? Doing so would tell you quickly if it was the bass, or the Amp.

How later is a little later?

If you immediately unplug it and plug it back in does it play normal or does it need some time before you plug it back in to come back to normal?

Just a thought, but it could be a bad solder connection somewhere that looses contact when the circuit heats up... maybe?
