Good Bass Luthiers in Atlanta area?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm not a pro musician, don't spend a lot on gear. I bought an SX Jazz bass that I'm happy with. I'd like to make a judicious investment in tweaking it. A new (non-plastic) nut, maybe a Gotoh 201 bridge. And some fretwork. The pups and the wiring seem good enough for my needs.

I had it "set up" by a guitarist pal, but there is still some fretboard buzz on the A string from the 7th fret up to about the 12th. I don't know whether it needs a little fretwork or better tweaking of the truss rod. But I'm willing to pay market rate to get it fixed up, to "be all that it can be."

I'd like to hear from Atlanta-area bassists about any bass luthiers who wouldn't look down their noses at an SX bass (as opposed to "boutique" basses or even "real" pro equipment) and would happily put their efforts into "maxing out" the playability of a cheap Chinese bass.

Any thoughts, fellas?

Thanks.

All the techs can do a great job, but ask for Nate (bass player). Just tell him your goal and budget and he will work with you.

You could also try The Fret Shop/Luthiers International (Snellville area-678-344-3104). I took the building/repair course there in 2005, great shop, great crew. I believe Mike Marshall at Atlanta Guitar Repair is John's brother! Check out the bio's on Mike's site, mostly Luthiers International graduates... tell them Ed (from Apopka, FL) sent you.
