Good, inexpensive Tuner Keys

Sign in to disble this ad
I have just acquired a used Rogue 6 string from a friend. Overall I like the bass but the tuner keys leave something to be desired.

The old ones look like Hipshot UltraLites (they are probably not, they just have the same look) in chrome satin.

What is a good replacement tuner key? The best price I've found on the Hipshots is $20 each + $4.80 shipping. I'd love to get some in the $10 range but don't want to replace the bad ones with ---well, more bad ones.

Also, can I replace them over time 1 at a time or will that mess things up? The B tuner on it seems pretty good, the D and G seem to lose tune the most.

Thanks for your help.

Cheap, good quality, Hipshot look-alikes may be a stretch, but you can pick up a full set of carvin tuners for less than 10 bucks each. You will have to call direct to get a set other than 4 string, but as an example the 4 string set only costs 34 bucks. The tuners on my carvin have never done me wrong, and A friend of mine put a set of Carvins on his Ibanez 5er, and he really liked them.

Alternatively, unless you are worried about the appearance, changing one at a time shouldn't be a problem.

I am having problems with the E tuning key on my Fender MIM Jazz Bass. I'm using Rotosound Trubass strings which have a .115 E string and I've experienced tuning problems and I think it is the tuning key. I was trying to find a replacement tuning key . I'm thinking of just replacing the E key cause all the rest work fine
