I am a native NYCer, so I can handle rude people, but there is a limit. There actually is a guitar tech two blocks from my place, but I refuse to go there because the first and only time I went in the store on of the sales guys basically told me that I was a fool for playing left-handed. Are you kidding me? I walked out and never went back, not even for strings.

One of my friend's comment on Evan was that once when my friend was there Evan was on the phone and commented "I'm on the phone with people more important than you." That amount of rudeness I can handle. I probably will try him next week.

I recommend Mas Hino.

glad to hear he's back in the city. Isn't it nice to have a bass player doing your setups? (Like Evan and Mas)

What kind of work do you need done? Just a setup or something more tricky (re-fretting, etc)?

It's not the same when you are searching!

Anyways, thanks for all the tips. In the end I went to Mas Hino. It made sense to get my bass setup by a bass player! Very nice guy and a great setup. There wasn't much wrong with my setup in the first place, but I really wanted to make sure everything was in working order ('70s Rickenbacker are known to have neck issues). He said the only other lefty he does setups for is Mark White of the Spin Doctors.

I actually tried to get my bass setup by Evan at first, but he was such a big flake. Called on Monday afternoon, and he said he actually closed early that day and to call him tomorrow. Since he opens at 10am, I would have to take a chance he can fit me in and carry my bass with me to work. I take the subway, so it's not as easy as simply throwing my bass in the trunk of a car. Anyways, I call him on Tuesday, and once again, he said he was busy, to call tomorrow. Back home with my bass I went. On Wednesday, I call him again, and he said to try again next week because he decided he was too busy this week. I now brought my bass to work two days in a row for nothing. I called up Mas, delivered my bass that night, got it back on Friday.

I also recommend Evan! GREAT prices, knows his stuff, and a nice guy. I can't even fathom someone thinking he's rude (I've been there several times).
