Got my Hipshot Bass Xtender!

I know everyone knows what they look like, but I took photos anyway. This is the BT4 model for USA Fenders, 1990's up to 2007 models (mine's a 2006). As long as your tuners look like these and have two locator pins on the underside of the baseplate, the BT4 is the one for your American Standard and/or American Series Fender. Hipshot's website is not exactly clear on that (they say 1990's Fender).

It was a cinch to install, and no drilling or alterations required for the BT4. Probably 20 minutes to install and dial in. So far, it works like a charm.

Welcome to the club !

I installed my first d-tuner in 1995 and have wondered how I lived without it ever since

congrats, I just got my bass back after a very complicated D-tuner/Badass II installation, they really do work well!

My second should be arriving any day, for my Spectorcore.

Remember to grease the contact point at the throw arm and stop-plate, and you'll be in like Flynn!

Yes, I used Vaseline on it. It does work well. Really glad to get it.

Busker - just received and installed Hipshots and an Xtender on my Geddy. I agree, quick install (although I did need to look at the video on Hipshot's website a few times). So much for ever needing a 5-string . . .

I'm not ready to sell off my five string yet - it works really well for certain songs. And I've been with vocalists lately who like to sing in Eb, Ab, Bb, B natural, etc. A five is the way to go on some of those songs, too.

I just installed one on my Mexi Jazz Thursday night and I dig it! What did you do to lube your nut? I rubbed mine with a graphite pencil - didn't have any nut sauce and I'm not sure that I'm interested in all the mess. I'm trying to find a Graphtech Black Tusq nut in the proper size/string spacing so that I don't have to worry about it.

Lube the nut? Excellent idea. Graphite should do the job. Better than nothing. I'm going to try that.

I wish they'll produce again the ones with special levers that does not touch the other machine heads when you drop the tuning, so that one can install not only for the nearest machine head(E on a 4 string) to the nut but next ones as well.

I want to install two extenders for both the B and E strings, and you can't install the regular ones next to each other

I use bicycle grease on the rotating plate (only because I always have a tube of that sitting around, petroleum jelly works fine too). I use powdered graphite to lube the nut. You can get it at real hardware stores (the problem is finding one of THOSE now!). It's sold for lubricating locks. A tube of it has lasted me about 20 years so far. I use a bit of the graphite evertime I retring a Hipshot equpped bass (that's four of my six 4-string basses) and everytime I restring the Stratocaster.

Zon Hyperbass has two tuners by each side which are distant from each others. It is a special instrument. I was talking about a regular bass a la Fender style headstock

I have one exactly like that on my 96 Precision fretless. I really great pice of gear. I have found it really good to play in the key of d, which I feel was the one low note a four string was missing.
