Gotoh Bridge

I asked earlier if there were any other bridges that weren't stock that would fit under the Fender ashtray and people were saying Gotoh was the brand to shoot for. I looked around a bit and they look very similar all around to the stock bridge that came with my bass. My question is are the Gotoh bridges actually any better than a Fender Jag stock bridge? And are any other bridges capable of fitting under the bridge cover such as Schaller or Hipshot?

I assume the jag comes with fenders standard bridge. I have replaced the bridge on my fender precision bass with the gotoh, and put a cover over it.

Well, i searched this topic if it really changes the sound i heard some yeses and some no's. When i put it on i did notice a bit of sustain change, for the better. Its hi-mass so it adds weight to the bass. But adds sustain, and it gave more a bright sound to the tone. All in all, i paid 50$ and ended up buying two. If you have 50$ i would say it cant hurt!

More mass will boost the sustain at least some. If you are happy with the sustain as it is, there's no point in changing anything. I changed my Fender stock bridge (to a heavier one) improve the physical balance by counteracting neck dive. That's another reason. Yet another is to adjust string spacing.

My experience with a Gotoh 201 is actually opposite to most. It tamed the tone I found, which is ok as the VMJ is super bright. Sustain - not sure I really notice a significant difference. Action is minutely higher even using original stock saddles bottomed out. Honestly, overall it mostly just looks cooler and lets me dig in more with less clackety clack.

Which model did you get? Anything under $75 would be nice so 50 works perfectly.
