Question gotoh and/or hipshot hardware?

Sign in to disble this ad
So, I'm building a custom jazz bass from parts and have come to the stage of buying hardware. I'm making it a string-through so I need a compatible bridge. Ive been looking at the Gotoh BB-3575-010: http://guitarpartsresource.com/bridge_gotoh.htm. It is a chrome bridge. However, the Gotoh tuners offered only come in nickel finish (http://guitarpartsresource.com/bass_tunersgotohv.htm. Should I mix the chrome and nickel finishes to stay all-Gotoh, or should I get the Gotoh bridge and get Hipshot tuners that are also chrome? Is it good to mix hardware brands?
Thanks for all the help

Mixing brands doesn't matter. I would go for the same finish.

We're talking bridge & tuners here; HS & Gotoh, IME, are both very good stuff & I doubt you'd notice any tonal diff between the two. I'd likely go w/aesthetics(mix brands, match finish), although aesthetically, I prefer HS in general.

Thanks for the advice. That answers my question well. I would go all Hipshot, except the string-through bridges they make are expensive and differently styled. Any suggestions for what HS tuners to get?

ultralights! They cost WAY too much but a non-neck-diving bass is worth it.
