I'm puting together a fretless Jazz bass, and I'm wondering if anyone has an opinion about which would be better to use; Gotoh 'elephant ears' or some '09 MIA Fender tuners??? Thanks in Advance.

Thanks walterw, but I'm more iterested in my bass staying in tune than saving weight. Oh well, if thats the only difference, it's 6 of one and half a dozen of the other.

staying in tune will not be the issue, as they're both perfectly good keys.

weight, however, makes a big difference in how neck-heavy the bass is on a strap.

I had a feeling that that was the case. I'm far too insensitive to tell if I have 3 ounces, more or less, on my head stock. Thanks for responding.

it's a bigger issue on lighter-weight basses, where a few ounces more at the headstock translates to a neck that you have to hold up with your hand all night.

that little bit of weight is at the end of a long "lever arm", so its effect is magnified.

Thanks Walterw. I have a 70's Fender P which is around 110 lbs. Even has a brass scratch plate, so It's not an issue.
