Graphtech Nut - Direct replacement for Mexi Jazz?

Sign in to disble this ad
I installed a Hipshot Xtender the other day so, I thought it would be a good idea to grab a Black Tusq nut for my '06 Mexican Jazz. According to the Allparts part number, it's the correct Graphtech Jazz bass nut. After popping out the old nut, I compared the two and the graphtech nut was quite a bit longer. That's not really a problem - I have sandpaper - but the string spacing was different too. When I lined up the A and D slots, the E and G on the Graphtech were substantially farther out than the original. I went ahead and put the original back in, assuming that Allparts had mixed up their part numbers or something, but before returning it, I measured the Graphtech and it was 1 9/16, just like the website says it's supposed to be.

So, here are my questions:

1. Has anybody put a Black Tusq nut in a Mexican Jazz?

2. Is the string spacing on a Mexi different from a US Jazz?

3. Did I just get the wrong nut?
