grooved saddles on badass

Sign in to disble this ad
i recently bought a brand new badass bridge for a parts bass i'm building, and it came with both grooved and flat saddles, and i'm not sure what to use. i'm drawn towards grooved as i don't have to do anything to them before i can use them so it saves me time.

the grooved saddles confuse me a little though, they appear as though the string could slip between different grooves as you play, and they generally seem as they'd give quite odd tone.

has anyone tried these grooved saddles? if so what are they like for tone, and how do they play?

I haven't used them, but I think that the new Highway One Jazz Bass has them, so they can't give that weird of a tone... Check the Fender website to see what they say about them...

Sorry I couldn't be more help...

I think they gave you a pre-grooved set and a regular set so you can use the pre-grooved or have a set cut specifically for the type and size string you use, if you wish to go to that extra trouble/expense. There are some detailed threads here regarding cutting grooves in the badass II saddles.

+1 on the grooved saddles.

There is so much pressure/tension being applied to a string tuned to pitch that I really don't believe this would be much of an issue, if at all.
