Ground goes to the tone pot?

Sign in to disble this ad
So I got bored and opened up my SX..

Cleaned out the inside a little bit and then realized that the white cable (ground) wasn't connected to anythign...assumed it went on the tone pot...

Got out my soddering iron...and the flippin thing won't melt the sodder that I've got; so right now I'm kinda screwed.

so after like an hour of trying I kinda just threw the wire onto the pot and uh, used a little bit of electrical tape to hold it until I can really get it fixed...

which means askin my friends for a soddering iron or maybe bringin my bass to school and see if they'll let me use on there...

Meh...any suggestions on what to do or if iteven does go on the tone pot?

The potentiometer case is usually a spot to find ground.
If you strip back the insulation from the wire and touch it
to the case and the hum & buzz goes away, you've got a
good place for a ground. You may have to use a small wire
brush to get a good bare surface to ground and solder to.
Sometimes electrical components have a bit of zinc plating
or a protective oily film which makes soldering & connections
a bit fussy.

Good luck
