Ground question.

Sign in to disble this ad
Up until this Monday I was using a Carvin R1000 with a Carvin 8x10. I switched over to a G-K 400RB-III and a Mesa Powerhouse.
With the G-K I noticed a really high pitch ringing when I wasnt making contact with my bass (Fernandez Gravity).

Thinking it was the head I plugged into a Heartke but still got the same response. Changed all my cables and different cabs etc.
Then I tried a different bass and it went away. So I am assuming its a ground issue with the bass.

So I guess I have 2 questions.
1. With the Carvin I didn't have a problem could there be a noise filter in the Carvin that the G-K doesn't have?

2. How do I fix this on my bass?

thanks again

I really wish someone would reply 2 this cuz I'm having the same problem. I just bought a squire fretless jazz and its doing the same thing. I haven't had my noise filter turned on w/it yet cuz I've been low on cables, but it shouldn't be happening at all. I opened it up assuming that Fender had grounded it on the metal jack plate, (which maybe the Carvin problem idk.) Unfortunately that was not the problem and I don't know what else it could be.

Guys, I don't want to sound critical, but this is the amount of concrete info that you both have furnished: "My bass makes a noise".

Unless you want your time wasted with answers that are pure guesses and therefore totally useless, I suggest that you both rewrite your posts to include all of the info that you can furnish.

Diagnosis via the web is hit or miss, at the best, and completely impossible with virtually no info to work with.

1- Has the bass always had the problem?
2- Has the bass been worked on recently, or been dropped?
3- Touch the bass where??? strings, control plate, when cable is jiggled?
4-Is the bass active or passive?
5- Describe the sound of the noise. Hum? High pitched squeal? Does the volume or tone control affect the sound of the noise?
6- How old is the bass?
7- Any other info that could possibly be pertinent.

An ungrounded bridge is a common problem when touching the strings makes the problem go away, provided the bridge is normally grounded. Some active basses don't ground have the bridge grounded.
