Grounding strip install on Fender Jaco Tribute Bass

Sign in to disble this ad
I recently purchased a new Fender Jaco Tribute Bass. It came with the grounding strip uninstalled and I am debating whether or not to install the one included. By the way, I am referring to the thin strip of copper/brass (?) stretching between the bridge and the bridge pickup. Has anyone installed a grounding strip on this bass before? Is it a complete pain in the ass? I don't expect it to impact the sound/feel of the bass due to the updated electronics and am just curious about the install process. Thanks in advance...

If you are planning to gig with this bass, first remove the strings and the bridge and check if the bridge is grounded. If is not, then you should install the strap.
The best way is to solder it to the grounding plate of the bridge pickup, and then just let the bridge press against the surface. Clean all metal surfaces to improve the electrical contact.
The strap will not affect the sound, but it will prevent hum noise from lights, fluorescent fixtures, amps, and other electrical sources.
If your bass bridge is grounded, you don't need to install the strap. Let me know on this as I am looking for a strap (this is for a vintage bass that I am building).
Thank you.
