gunstock oil on fretboard?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi,
I have a bass with a maple neck. The fretboard has some kind of Poly on it.I have used gunstock oil in the past on other instruments mostly on the back of the neck, and I really like the finish it gives. But I'm not sure if it would hold up on an already finished maple fretboard.
has anybody tried this?

Not a good idea!
It won't work on finished necks. It will not penetrate the wood and will not dry.
I use regular guitar polish to clean up maple necks.

I've used Tru-Oil gunstock finish extensively on unfinished fingerboards but I don't know how it would work for a board with finish already on it.

Avoid it as it will gum up the works big-time.

What about Shea butter?

Not that I'm planning to put it on my fretboard or neck, but I use it as a skin cream, and sometimes my hands are still a bit greasy when I pick up my Ibby.

Huh?
Thanks for the input.I ended up recoating the fretboard with a Minwax polyurethane. After some sanding and polishing( i was careful not to get the frets) it looks almost as good as if I had sprayed it and seems quite strong now.
