Ok so I use dunlop strap locks and was playing to day when out of no where "SNAP" and thank god I had a firm grip on the neck at the time.
Anyways what happened was the screw which was obviously pretty worn from years of use. The head just snapped off which sent my brand new bass close to a early demise.
Thankfully I caught the bass as it was falling and saved it..
But the screw was broke off right at the base of the body. which left me with one option. Drill around the screw just enough to get a pair of needle nose pliers in there to take it out.
Now with the screw out I had a little bit of a mess but I was prepared for the next step and the mess never exceded the 5/8" diameter of the thickest point of the dunlop strap lock.
So off to home depot I went and picked up a $21 5/8" drill bit which I will never use again

and went to work.
End result is I now have recessed strap locks you see on higher end basses..
Thankfully everything went well and it looks pretty cool, but this could of been a disaster today if I didnt have my hands already on the neck when it broke. I could of been out one hell of a nice bass..
