HARMONIC

Well i am not getting a great sounding harmonic on my d string 5th fret,i tried new strings,anyone know what could cause that?it just sounds kinda thuddy and does not ring like the rest.

that seems kinda strange, what about the other harmonics on your d string, do they ring ok?

yes they seem good,there is a harmonic on the spot i mentioned but it dies right away.

You might try plucking/picking in different spots along the string. Also, your sweet-spot may not be exactly above the fret. Try a little behind or in front.

yeah i tried that,i think that it might just be the bridge,i have a roscoe beck 4 and the bridge is some new design,i think i'll just deal with it,the bass plays so well.

it must have something to do with where your pickups are placed on the body of your bass. you can get that same harmonic 2 ways thatt i know of play it at the 17th fret of same string, or fret the 5th fret and do the natural harmonic at the 17th fret. to do that you just fret the 5th fret, then put ur thumb over lightly over the 17th fret, and pick behind your thumb the end nearest the bridge.

cause i really dont' know how it could be your bridge or nut if your getting harmonics out of the 4th and 7th fret
