That guy was just abusing his frets and neck IMO. Totally unecessary. I also wonder if he's not deadening his strings.
I was wondering that as well. There is such a thing as stretching too much and wearing out the strings faster I'm sure.

But, you know what they say, as he put it "Good stretching makes a good bass".

I thought everyone knew to stretch their new strings. It helps break the temper out (just like boiling puts it -- briefly -- back in.)

I do this, though not as vigorously or for as long as this young man advises. I used to loop a towel around the the strings to do it, but I can do it just as easily with my hands.

Interestingly according to DR, you don't have to do this with High Beams and I've found it to be true. They maintain their tuning very well out of the package.

Imagine what this guy's gonna do when his kid brother/sister complains about growing pains?

hahahahaa, that was great. the 'expert' it says in the upper right hand corner has been playing more than 10 years ! lol ,ive been watching pornos longer than that. if you stretch your strings 1 1/4 ", thats plenty. the trick for your bass to stay in tune is to stretch the strings beyond what they are stretched in actual playing. you can over stretch like he did, but the strings will be outside thier elasticity point, and will sound dead. experiment for your self : take a thin piece of copper wire, stretch it slowly, notice how it stertches easily at first, and as it nears its breaking point, will become harder to stretch. this is called 'work hardening', and the property of the metal is different after stretching. johnny a

I WOULD NEVER DO THAT TO MY BASS!
Plus i'd by scared the string will break and slice my face off with it's wiplash haha

What i do is just put the strings on. grab a pick and go HxC on them for about a minute.
