headstock crack

Hello. I just received a new Gibson Thunderbird. There's a small v-shaped crack in the finish just above the nut. You can feel it if you run your finger over it. I think it's just the veneer ... is that possible? I'm hoping it's not the wood, but it's hard to tell. Everything seems solid. Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks.

Hambone,
Thanks for the reply. Don't have a digital camera handy. Looking at it more closely (for most of the day), I've decided to send it back to Gibson for a replacement. There shouldn't be any cracks in a brand new guitar.

You beat me to your own right answer. I would not accept a crack in a one hundred dollar guitar, much less a one thousand dollar guitar.
