A heavy Body-through bridge for a Fender?

Sign in to disble this ad
My 2005 Jazz suffers from neck-dive and I want to start adressing this issue with getting a new bridge (string-through-body) becase a) it might make it sound even better, b) it might help the neck dive and c) would not require me to drill in the wood.

What are the best most-often-suggested bridges for such a situation?

The BadAss III is made for the AM STD Fender w/ 3 hole mounting and string through. It is heavier than the stock bridge.

The HM bridge on the Fender 2008 and newer model AM STD's are also heavier than the stock bridge on the 2005 model.

Hope this helps!

I will take a look at both, thanks! What is the general opinion about these two? Also, is there anywhere where I can see it's weights?

the bridge will make almost no difference in balance.

what you need are lightweight keys. being out on the end of a long lever (the neck), any weight gets "amplified", and the stock AM std keys from that era are freaking heavy.

I see. What kinds of keys will fit a 2005 without the need to drill?

probably none.

plenty will fit through the peghead just fine, only requiring new little holes on the back for mounting.

I've used Hipshot Ultralights and Gotoh Res-O-Lite 350 tuners. The Gotohs are lighter with 4 of the Gotohs weighing about as much as 3 of the Hipshot U/Ls.

I agree the bridge wont help. Being a Fender fan and owner I cant think the neck dive could be too great (like a thunderbird) since I have never held a Fender to this day myself with neck dive. Try a wide 4" leather strap with the "suede" underside on it. These will grip your shirt and will not allow the bass to move. I use one since i need the width from a bad shoulder and trust me they grab on to your shirt.

97 Jazz Deluxe Chrome logo maple neck-- so much neck dive you could use it to drill into an asteroid like in Armagedon.

I'm tempted to film myself holding a cheap Yamaha RBX170 with NO HANDS and then my Jazz for everyone to believe how horrible the neck dive is.

My 97 was the horrible-ist.... is that a word? The tuners were really too fat. In 98 they put lighter tuners on the deluxes. My 98 P D lux did not have the scuba.

that one doesn't already have lightweight keys? the later ones definitely do. they would have black plastic-looking housings.

the big problem with them is the smaller body and extra fret longer neck, making it even more unbalanced.

They started the light ones in 98.
