Help! Buzzing at 12-13-14 frets, weird intonation.

Hey everyone, I recently purchased an Ibanez AEB10E Acoustic-Electric bass which I really like. From day one it played really nicely and sounded good unplugged and plugged. I got its case (AEC50 or something like that) a week later and after storing it in there there is buzzing when I play the 12-14 fret especially on the G-string. Adjusting the truss rod helped a little but it was still there. I'm not totally sure if it the frets buzzing, could be something lower( maybe a frequency thing). If anyone has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.

BTW: Does anyone think the case could of caused this?

Is it just the 12th - 14th, or all frets from 12 up?

If it's everything from 12 up, then it sounds like the neck has too much bow. if It's just those three, then one fret could be a bit high. Of course the non-adjustable bridge may make it a bit tougher to fix.

Here's a link to a good document for general set up.

If a bit more adjustment of the truss doesn't relieve it (straighten neck), I believe you will ultimately need a fret leveling/dressing to resolve it.

However, you can try to put some paper between the string and bridge to see if the little extra height helps.

Also are these acoustic strings or normal bass strings?

Unlikely to be the case itself. More likely it could be a normal side-effect of it getting adjusted to the new environment (your home and regular use as compared to the music store and no use).

Sounds like a relief issue -- that is, too much relief. But you could also have your action very low, which, if there's a bit of ramp up at the heel of your fretboard, would be problematic.

Do you have a means of measuring your relief, nut slot height, and action, and posting that information here? Since you're willing to tinker with it yourself, that information could help us make some meaningful suggestions.

Cheers!
