A hipshot tuner should be no problem. Just unscrew the 2-4 screws (depending on what tuner it is) and fit it in. The only adjustment you would have to do is to just adjust the screw on the back which determines how far the switch depresses. Secondly the bridge, if its got the same drill mounts as the old one, just unscrew that and replace it back on. But then you got the problem of re-adjusting the intonation of that bridge. How ever i would not attempt to do either before your music exam. The last thing that you need is for equipment failure to happen due to parts falling off from inproper or rushed part replacement. I would just settle for what you've got for the exam, or possibly borrow a bass if those parts are broken. Anyway good luck with your music exam (assuming your year 12). My VCE music group performance exam is on the 23rd this month.

Here are some instructions for installing some of these products.

Hipshot D-tuner

Installing this tuner may be a retrofit but as often as not will require one or more existing tuner screw holes to be plugged and rebored. Sometimes it is very close but not quite right. Resist the temptation to try to finesse it and think that it will be "close enough". It won't be. Plug and rebore.

BA II

The BA II is a direct replacement for Fender guitars. The holes will match the holes in the body. If your guitar is not a Fender the body may require new holes to be bored (or old holes plugged and re-bored) to install the bridge. If the bridge has the standard saddles they will have to be slotted to one half the diameter of the individual string. This has been discussed on this forum recently. The search function should reveal some intelligent discussion on this subject.

The best advice that can be given is to not change anything until after your test. Unfamiliar equipment or changes to existing equipment is the easiest and quickest way to tank a performance.

definitely a +1 on that

If you don't have alot of familiarity with setting up a bass, a few days before an exam is not the time to experiment.

thanks for all your help

D-Tuner i installed yesterday after a gig and now it works great!

BAII - im going to take your advice and leave it till after exam. theres a lot more detail to correcting the bass after instalation and im not great with intonation and truss rod adjustment, but it is sumthing i would really like to learn in the not to distant future.

thx all

Too late, but there is a Hipshot video on YouTube that shows you how to install, and more importantly, correclty TUNE your D-tuner. Type in HipShot into the search.

Good Luck on the test
