Help with Electronics Setup

Sign in to disble this ad
Alright, so a few months ago my wires in my control box broke off from excessive tightening of the knobs. Now, just a few weeks ago, i ripped apart the whole bass and decided to revamp it. Im defretting, painting, new pickups etc. My question is, when the time comes, how will i know what to solder where? Will instructions come with the pickups? Will i have to take it to a shop? Are there any plans you guys can post up here? All help is appreciated. Thanks.

what kinda' bass ya' got? (fill out yer profile )

I'm sure most pickup manufacturers include wiring instructions
with their products (I know DiMarzio does ).

If you're talkin' about a "P", "J", or combination thereof,
somethin' here should help.

!

Wow, great link! Thanks! Yeah, its a P style copy. Thanks for the help! and i filled out my profile!

EDIT: One more thing: What do the arrows mean in the plans? I see in the legend an arrow means to ground it (which im not sure how to do anyway..) but the arrow in the plan seems to be of a different type. Also, when i took off my bridge, there was a wire with a stripped end sticking out of a hole under the bridge. What about that one? Thanks.

Nahh. They're both meant to symbolize "ground".

That wire runs back into the control cavity and most
definitely should be connected to a ground point.

The bridge is probably made of a conductive material and
it's in contact with the strings (also, probably a conductive
material) which anchor into the tuners. The strings may or may
not be making electrical contact with the tuners. Still, the bridge,
strings, and (possibly) the tuners can act like a big ol' antenna.
So unless you wanna' pick up every EM source around - ground
that bridge wire! .

Here's an alternate wiring diagram for a P which may clear
things up. Plus the note from that Seymour Duncan drawing...
