Question Help finding a truss rod adjustment tool for my VM Jazz

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys. I did a search to see if this topic has been discussed before and couldn't find anything conclusive. Anyway, I'm looking into buying a truss rod adjustment tool for my Squier VM Jazz. By looking down the hole at the headstock, it definitely looks like I'd need to use an allen wrench of some kind, but I don't know what size I should get. Thanks!

I would just go with an allen key set. I bought a few in the automotive section at Wal-Mart for a couple bucks each. I keep them in my cases. It's harder to find singles.

That's certainly true. I guess I was just a little worried because I've heard stories of people stripping the nut by using the wrong size wrench.

If you have a local music store, give them a call and see if they stock, mind you it may cost more than going to a Walmart.

I agree - just get a set. It comes out cheaper that way. Also, there are two types: metric and imperial (english). Since a set is cheap anyway, why not get both - you'll probably find some use for them down the road (assuming you remember where you hid them).

Most Squiers use a standard 1/4" hex wrench. The VM should be the same. Just make sure your tool fits snugly into the nut and always loosen the strings and put pressure on the neck when adjusting.

Thanks for the advice, guys! I'll probably head out to Wal-Mart in the next day or so to pick something up.

You can get a 16-piece SAE/Metric set for $1 at Walmart. Buy extras and hide them around the house.
