Cool HELP! How to protect signatures on a bass

Sign in to disble this ad
So I got one of my dreams fulfilled recently. All 3 members of Rush signed my Jazz. Problem is...I don't want to just show it off, I want to play it! I know there has to be somebody out there...a luthier or refinisher who has experience with this. They signed it using one of those silver felt tip signature pens right on the body. And yes the body was already fully finished and lacquered. My thought was either a clear protective hobbyist decal sealed over the sigs, or possibly a light spray on clearcoat that wouldn't run the sigs and be invisible to the finished body. Any suggestions?

Thanks folks!

I've seen others recommend the decal approach, with 2-3 mist coats of nitro to protect the decal. i personally haven't done one. Maybe someone will chime in.

Stew-Mac sells clear pickguard material in sheets. I'd buy a sheet, cut it to fit, and apply it over the sigs.

I would NOT spray anything over them - all sprays have solvents which might damage the sigs.

a friend of mine has put on a little plastic kinda transparent sheet over john myung's autographs on his bass (maybe some sort of lamination). i was actually playing his bass and didn't notice it until he told me about it. works great!
