Question Help Me! Attaching the Neck to my Jazz Bass

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi guys,

I know this is probebly a really easy questions but i'm a bit new to all this and could not find the answer doing a search.

I just recieved my Marcus Miller Jazz in the post but I had it shipped with the neck not attached to the body.

My Question (as simple as it is): Do I just put the neck into the slot correctly and just screw it in? Or is there something in particular I should be looking out for?

Thanks in advance!

You just put the neck into the slot correctly and screw it in. Look out for it not being properly seated in the neck pocket before starting to drive the screws in. Also check to see that your screwdriver bit matches the screw. Before starting, take a look at a couple similar bolt on neck basses and see how they're constructed. If you're still unsure, take it to a tech.

Once the neck is re attached there may have to be some set up work done, depending on how the bass was before it was shipped to you. And of course, you'll have to re attach the strings and tune the bass.

I would also not screw the bolts in one at a time.

I would put them all in the holes and then screw the first a little bit, then the second a little bit, then the third, ... and back to the first. And so on until they're all very tight. Maybe this is evident, but the first time i tried this i did'nt do that and the neck wasn't attached very tightly. When I did it the second time, I screwed every bolt a little bit an they ended up perfect.

Greetz.

No no no, use duct tape! Around the neck and the body ( on the bass, not you)!
