help me figure out what nut to buy!

Sign in to disble this ad
hey all.

i've got an 80s Japanese Squier jazz bass, not a JV but the next serial no# from that one, i cant remember the no#...its basically a JV Squier.

anyway, someone replaced the nut a few years ago with a "jazz bass nut but its curve was to deep on the underside...and when i put new strings on it, the nut cracked down the middle...

so im trying to find a proper nut for it...

so what nut should i use? the standard jazz bass nut? will that be flatter on the bottom?

does this make sense?

this is the shape that was in there

and this is more like the shape that seems to be proper.

thanks for the help

The one you found is fine. Just needs to be flat on the bottom.

I think maybe Mustangs use them, not sure. Also some guitars. Most(not all) basses use flat bottom ones.

I found this not true. My new 51 has a curved nut which broke in half last night....sloppy nut job for a MIJ

I happened to have picked up a Fender replacement P-bass nut at a dealer that replaces the MIM or amer- standard P bass nut. It is curved on the bottom following the fretboard curve. I had to retool the one i had to fit using the broken one as a guide...so far so good.
