My Axcelerator has chrome knobs like a fender P, but I want the old peavey style knobs like what’s on a T-40, with the peavey logo. But the problem is that one of the knobs is a stacked (concentric) knob. So what could I use for it, that won’t look out of place? I haven’t seen any active peavey basses with the old style knobs. And where in the world would I find them?
Since mine is black also, I may go with regular black knobs like this one if I can't solve my dilemma, but then I'd want to change the tuners too: Peavey Axcelerator Electric Bass Guitar, OHSC & Tuner | Bass Guitars for Sale US |

Any suggestions? And thanks for replying BTW. |

or maybe replace the top knob with this peavey rotory knob it kinda matches too

Thanks for being so helpful. I did order the 4 peavey knobs, although I only need 2. The rotory and the hipshot both look good, but the rotory is what I'm favoring, if it will work. I think I'd need a thinner bottom for it to work, and maybe in black. Thanks again!!!
Day crew, what do ya'll think? Have you got any more suggestions? |

I don't want the rotary to be too wide or too tall. The chromes knobs that are on there don't look right to me, because the 2T bridge is not chrome. It looks more nickel (or maybe steel) to me than chrome.

The pots are scratchy anyway, so I don't mind having them changed. Beside, I would really like a little darker tone from the bass if possible. But It's my first active bass so I really need to pull the PG to see how the preamp is intergrated. I've also read where peavey owners are upgrading to Millennium preamps, but I don't know much about them at this point, or even if it's a possibility.
I guess I could buy the rotary knob to see if it will work. If not, the only other solution I can come up with is a black stacked. But I have ordered the peavy knobs, so I'm kindda commited to doing something, because I really don't like the chromes. |

The Laser P knobs are always in demand.
A Millenium preamp is not a direct replacement for your bass....
I've never had a Millenium preamp "somthing's missing" thought.. it's 1/2 way between a Pbass and Cirrus... very simple knob layout.

The shafts are not too wide, but they are tall. The Peavey knob stands off the PG about 1/4" or so. I would need to cut the tip off the pots to make it look right. I also pulled the PG to see what it would take to replace the pots, but it looks foreign to me, not like the squier that I've worked on. I would love to replace the pots because they're scratchy, but haven't come up with a plan yet. Maybe I'll try to find a tech this weekend. Do you think I can use generic pots, or do they have to come from Peavey?
Edited: I will try cleaning the pots first to fix the scratchy, but I wonder if cutting the tip off (Vibrations) will kill it.

This is not a bass I'd replace preamps on

| | <---Shinola Shite--^ | | Join Date: Dec 2010 Location: Manitoba, Canada | | This may fit, it looks low profile and the flange of the peavey knob may overhang a bit, my guess is its close. It is flat in that the upper knob sits above it instead of recessed inside it. Measurements are not available for this part, but someone here may have one to let you know Genuine Fender Lower Concentric Knurled J. Bass Knob | eBay
See if you can get it locally from a store part #0049457000
If it's too shiny chrome, take a wire brush to it to dull it down BTW those Peavey 1980's knobs are a vast improvement to your bass's apppearance over the stock ones. Good call! Peavey should still use them on all their instruments.
Edit: here's a better picture of the part. http://www.darrenriley.com/shop/cart..._detail&p=1831

Thanks for your help. I believe the current knob is this: Guitar Parts Resource* ::* Stacked Knobs
part#: MK-0138-010.
So I was thinking about using a black one on top. This isn't what I want but all I could come up with.
I really doubt if the above rotary knob will work because it appears to be for a Peavey XR1600D Powered 16 Channel Mixer. |
