Please help! I just got a brand new Rickenbacker 4003, i was just unscrewing the big screws on the pickup cover on my 4003 to make an adjustment to it, and now the pickup cover is like sunk in, tight against the strings... i keep tying to pull it out, but then i have to hold it, and there's a lot of resistance, and i can't seem to get teh screws back in... help! this is a brand new bass! |

I would take the pickup cover off the bass, it always got in the way whenever I played it and actually it was touching the strings most of the time.

| | That's the way uh huh uh huh I like it.. | | Join Date: Sep 2006 Location: Robbinsville, NJ | | | It's no biggie. A pain in the butt, yes but certainly no disaster.
You just need to loosen/remove the tops of the strings, take the p/u assembly out so you have access to the underside, guide the screw back into the p/u base screw hole and tighten. Reassemble as needed.
Like others have said - now would also be a great time to lose the p/u cover if you don't want it.

| | | No biggie, loosen the strings, remove the 4 small screws that hold the treble pickup bracket to the bass and carefully lift the assembly out a bit. You'll see what's binding up. Remove the big screws, take off the plastic cover and reassemble the screws, bracket, ground wire, springs and pickup backing plate in the same order as original (minus the cover).
Then re-install the assembly with the 4 small screws.
It takes maybe 10 minutes. Quote:

If you ever decide to yank the pickup cover, go check out joeysbassnotes.com for the correct way to do it without pulling the pickup out or even loosening the strings. Not saying you need to, but thisway saves a lot of greif.
Now ya gotta get the matching FL. |
