help me with some ebay parts choices:

Hi all,
So for my birthday the wifey alloted me (amongst other things) $50 for bass parts.

I've already got a black babicz bridge and sunbeam strings on my LEFTY tobacco burst VM jazz. I'm wanting to black out the rest of the hardware: Here's what I'm thinking (all coming to Canada).

Tuners: http://goo.gl/Q8Xwa
String retainer: http://goo.gl/DJi2j
Plate: http://goo.gl/RrL0E
Knobs: http://goo.gl/u0sqO
screws: http://goo.gl/qSVEE

I'm pretty sure the tuners are what a guy in portland is selling for a little less but the shipping kills it. Even seems like the same number of gear teeth so I'm 'hoping' for a good fit...

Can you see any gotcha's with these items? I'm still gonna need pickguard screws and if there's money left a back plate as well. Is there anything I've missed?

After this? Well it's probably time to save for a good fret level and setup then better pickups!

Any thoughts and suggestions are invited...
Thanks!
Stuart

The string retainer you're looking at is for guitar, not bass. Here's the bass version: http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-VINTAGE-...item5ae34c0b17

I'm pretty sure those tuners are exactly the same footprint as what came on my VMJ. Way I figure there are only so many Chinese factories (probably one) pumping out tuners and the key shafts on those look identical to the older vm's (the newer have Mexi style tuners). I was looking at them but decided to go with Hipshots.

I have those knobs and they're great. A jazz needs jazz knobs! They aren't exactly like real jazz knobs (real have rounded "grips") but they are close enough and look right.

I did black screws too, looks good. Now I just want a black pearl pg. I might pop ten bucks on a Chinese eBay piece.

Thanks elgecko, Although now looking at some other basses, I think I'll start small and see where I'm happy with... so right now (this late at night) I'm thinking black:

* Vintage style knobs
* Tuners and retainer
* Screws in the pickguard and possibly the controll plate (which will remain chrome) for contrast.
* Strap buttons.

Inspired by this thread: Squier VM '70s Jazz bass modded and upgraded -- my Super-Squier!

Thanks for the help!
