Help with Mods...........

Sign in to disble this ad
Ive only had my Bass for 2 weeks, its a Ibanez SRX2EX1 4 string....
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/prod...Bass?sku=514310

I know its early for me to even be thinking about moding my bass since i havent had it long, nor have i had the time to play it and get to know it. But i recently found out that my good friend that works with me has a friend that works for allparts, and hes leaving to live in Austin at the end of the month. He has offered to give use parts for very low prices, for example i can have a $100 brand new pickup for about $20! So my question is what simple mods should i do while i can take advantage of these prices? Also brand recommendations would be helpful, they guy is suggesting Razor brand pickup.
thanks guys

Not to be rude, but I'm going to play the Devil's Advocate here... Are you sure they arn't stolen? I mean... new $100 pups for $20? If its legit, thats one hell of a markup.

There's an old saying that goes "if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is".

I have bought and sold instrument parts for many years and you can rest assured that NO company gives an 80% employee discount. A 20% discount is believable, but not 80%.

I don't think the Razor pickups will be any improvement over the stock Ibanez, which aren't bad at all. But if you're getting them cheap it won't hurt to find out.

The stock strings are the first thing I'd change. Good strings can make quite a difference.

first mod to a new bass is a set of strings and a good setup. Without that the all the mods in the world won't improve the sound and playability of the bass. Read the posts on strings and see what members are using on your type of bass. Also look for sales on strings in the classifieds so that you try out different ones. If you are inclined to try your own setup then read Gary Willis setup manual. If not then spend your money on strings and take it to a luthier for a professional setup.

Here is something for you to play everyday while warming up. This is from the technique section.

Excercise sticky

Have fun...and...play that bass every day.
