Help !?! My First finishing project on Carvin Basskit

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello everybody,

I have a Carvin BK4 basskit on delivery with alder body, maple neck, ebony fngerboard. I know Carvin suggests to finish the bass with Tung oil, but I want to add dark walnut stain and satin finish.

So I need to know what kind of stain and clear satin finish to use, and HOW to use them. How many coat of stain and how to apply the stain and the clear finish to the wood?? Do I have to use brush or hand rub ??

I want a Dark walnut on the alder body, and clear satin on the back and top of the neck. No finish on the ebony fretboard.

I'm really a newbie in this finishing thing, so I need every advice you can give me.
And, what are the advantages of stainless steel fret compare to nickle fret ??

Thx

Good place to start: Read ReRanch 101 and the section on dyes. Then read them again.
