Help! Neck Finish Worn Through in Places

I've got a bass with a satin-finished maple neck. The finish is worn through in a couple of places to the bare wood and I would like to "patch" the worn areas. Could someone who has done this successfully tell me what material I need to fix this and how to apply it? Thanks!
